The Greater Scott County Chamber of Commerce encompasses over 300 businesses in our area; this group is united under the prospect of
perpetuating business in the local economy. Twelve business people and
four high school students comprise the Board of Directors. On the first Wednesday of each month, this group meets at 7:00 a.m. at various locations to discuss project initiatives and current issues. While positions
on the board rotate every three years, any Chamber member is welcome to attend.
Each year, the Chamber tries to create new initiatives while continuing to sponsor annual events. Here are just a few of their current projects.
A NEW INITIATIVE- Over the past school year, the Education Committee
has been involved in the "Dollars and Sense" Program at Scottsburg Middle School. Students learned practical business ethics during the course of this program. The Chamber has also joined with the Character Counts Program
in sponsoring a skit to teach elementary-aged students the value of character.
A grant was used to design life-size puppets to integrate into
this show, which will be performed by middle-school students. The Lyrics Alive crew helped write lyrics.

An essential component of the Chamber of Commerce is the Chamber Committees. This entity sponsors many projects throughout the year and hosts ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new Chamber businesses.
The Marketing Committee meets the second Wednesday of each month. They have initiated "After Hours" events and are being scheduled thru 2011.
The Fundraising Committee will again sponsor the Chamber Challenge to be held in October, 2011 at the Quality Inn-Scottsburg.
The Education Committee assists with Dollars & Sense in the middle school, Career Clusters in the high schools, Character Counts in the grade schools. They are also assisting with the Leadership Academy.
