February is Heart Month! The nation is coming together to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and saving lives. Staff at Scott Memorial Health, to show support, wore red for National Wear Red Day which is observed annually on Friday February 5th.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death and disability among women. Every 100 seconds, a woman in the U.S. has a heart attack. Women can have unique health factors that may increase their risk for heart disease, including a history of preeclampsia or diabetes while pregnant, some mental health conditions and a history of smoking.

Heart disease and its impacts are often preventable. Awareness of risk factors, knowing heart health numbers, and making healthy lifestyle choices can reduce a woman’s risk for heart disease and other diseases like diabetes and cancer.
