Creel Assistant Job Announcement

Compensation: $15.00 per hour; subject to change. This is a seasonal, temporary, position lasting from March through October 2022.

General Job Description: Looking for an individual interested in natural resources management to fill a temporary position in southern Indiana beginning as early as March 7th, 2022 and lasting through October 31st, 2022. The creel assistant would be responsible for assisting biologists with collection of fishing effort, fish harvest, and angler opinion data by conducting interviews of anglers at Hardy Lake near Scottsburg, Indiana.

General Duties: This position serves as an intermittent employee for Fish Management District 6. The creel survey will be conducted at Hardy Lake located near Scottsburg, Indiana. Work is performed according to rules, regulations and policies established by DNR and respective agency divisions. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, assisting district personnel in conducting an angler survey at Hardy Lake. Applicant should be able to communicate with anglers, identify fish species, take measurements of fish, and legibly record all collected information on provided forms.

Work Hours: Work assignments will include most weekends and 2-3 weekdays per week with variable morning/evening shifts lasting 7 1/2 hrs. Morning shifts will be from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM and evening shifts will be from 2:00 PM to 9:30 PM. There will be a minimum of 2 days off during each work week.  This position will be a full-time, temporary position, with a 37 1/2 hr work week.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants should have the ability to communicate effectively with the public. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Must be able to pass a state background check. Candidate will be responsible for providing their own transportation to Hardy Lake.

Working Conditions: Creel clerks work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Physical labor can include walking and working in and around water, measuring anglers catch, and working in an outdoor environment.

Location: This position is managed through the District 6 fisheries management office near Winslow, Indiana. Actual work duties will be performed at Hardy Lake near Scottsburg, Indiana. Transportation to the fisheries management office will only be required to complete the initial hiring process.
